It starts as real wine, made from properly fermented grapes. The alcohol is then removed using specialist techniques that preserve the flavour, aroma and character of the original wine. What you are left with is something that drinks like wine, without any of the alcohol.

There are three main methods. Spinning cone technology uses centrifugal force and low-temperature steam to gently separate alcohol while preserving delicate aromas. Vacuum distillation lowers the boiling point of alcohol so it can be removed without heat damage. Reverse osmosis passes the wine through a fine membrane, separating alcohol from the flavour compounds, which are then recombined without it. The method matters, and it is one of the reasons quality varies so much between brands.

Spirit alternatives are made very differently to alcohol-free wine. Rather than removing alcohol from a finished drink, they are built from scratch. Botanicals such as juniper, citrus peel, herbs, spices and roots are distilled, steeped or macerated in water to draw out their aroma and flavour, then blended and balanced. The result is a complex, spirit-style base with real depth and bite, and no alcohol at all. It is why a good gin or aperitivo alternative still tastes like the real thing in a mixed drink.

Our ready-to-drink mocktails are built on genuine alcohol-free spirit alternatives, not just fruit juice or fizzy mixers. That gives them the botanical complexity, balance and grown-up bitterness of a proper cocktail — think a spritz, a highball or a negroni-style serve — without the alcohol and without the sugary letdown. They are made to be sipped and savoured like the real thing.

The best ones do, and that is what we focus on. We only stock products we have tasted and believe in, whether it is wine, a spirit alternative or a ready-to-drink mocktail. Some are genuinely indistinguishable from their alcoholic equivalents. Others have a character of their own, but the flavour, aroma and balance are very much there.

Most of our products are 0.0% ABV, which means no detectable alcohol whatsoever. Some are under 0.5% ABV, which is the UK legal standard for alcohol-free drinks and comparable to trace amounts found in ripe fruit or bread. Every product listing states the ABV clearly.

Alcohol-free drinks carry significantly fewer calories than their full-strength counterparts, with no next-day effects on sleep, energy or mood. You still get the ritual and pleasure of a proper drink without alcohol affecting your body. With wine in particular, many of the polyphenols and antioxidants naturally present in grapes also remain after dealcoholisation.

Alcohol-free drinks are a good choice for those who are sober-curious, choose not to drink for personal or religious reasons, or simply want to moderate.
