If you've been searching for halal wine in the UK, you've probably noticed that the options aren't always easy to find. The information out there isn't always clear either.
We're going to answer all of that. Honestly and without the fluff.
What does halal mean when it comes to wine?
In Islamic dietary law, alcohol is prohibited. That means conventional wine, beer and spirits are off the table. The word halal simply means permitted, and when it comes to drinks, it broadly means free from alcohol and any other prohibited ingredients.
So when people search for halal wine, what they're really looking for is wine that delivers the experience of wine: the depth, the flavour, the occasion, without the alcohol content. That's where alcohol-free wine comes in. But here's where it gets a little more nuanced.
Is all alcohol-free wine halal?
Not automatically, no. Some alcohol-free wines are made by removing the alcohol from real fermented wine. This process is called dealcoholisation. Done well, it produces something that genuinely tastes like wine. The question then is: how much alcohol remains?
For many in the Muslim community, 0.0% is the threshold that matters. A product labelled 0.0% has been tested and confirmed to contain no measurable alcohol. Beyond that, some people also look for formal halal certification from a recognised certifying body. If that matters to you, check the label or the brand's website directly.
Introducing the ÔPIA range
The ÔPIA range is one of the most carefully made alcohol-free wine collections available in the UK. Produced by Maison Pierre Chavin in France, these wines are crafted from organic grapes and are completely unfermented.
They are certified Organic, Vegan and Halal. Not just low in alcohol, but formally verified by a recognised authority. That combination of quality production and certification is rarer than you'd think.
"What makes ÔPIA stand out beyond the certification is that the wines actually taste the part."
They are structured, food-friendly and genuinely enjoyable on their own terms. That is what we look for in everything we stock at No&Low.

Who drinks halal wine
The honest answer is: all sorts of people. The Muslim community is the most obvious and significant group, and it is one that has been genuinely underserved by the drinks industry for a long time. If your faith means alcohol isn't an option, that shouldn't also mean you're stuck with juice at dinner or sparkling water at a wedding.
"If you're hosting and you want every guest to have something genuinely nice in their glass, halal-certified 0.0% wine is a proper solution."
Halal wine also appeals to people who are sober curious, pregnant, driving, on medication, or simply looking to drink less without feeling like they're missing out. Not a second-class option. Not a soft drink dressed up as something else. Everyone can drink it. No one has to explain themselves.
How to serve and enjoy it
Temperature matters. Serve whites and sparkling well-chilled, around 8 to 10°C. Reds at cool room temperature, around 16 to 18°C. Too warm and the flavour flattens.
Use proper glassware. It makes a real difference. A decent wine glass lets you nose the wine properly and brings out the complexity that cheaper glassware flattens out.
Food pairings work. Chardonnay with fish, pasta and soft cheeses. Cabernet Sauvignon with grilled meats and roasted veg. Rosé with mezze and salads. Sparkling works on any occasion.
Drink within a day or two of opening. Keep refrigerated and use a wine stopper. Alcohol-free wines don't keep as long as conventional once opened.
We stock the full ÔPIA range at No&Low Drinks, delivered across the UK. Every bottle is 0.0% ABV and halal certified. We only stock things we would actually drink ourselves.
If you're new to alcohol-free wine, the ÔPIA Sparkling Chardonnay is the place to start. Celebratory, versatile, and it tends to convert even the most sceptical guests.

Halal wine means alcohol-free wine that has been formally certified as halal. The 0.0% ABV threshold is the clearest and most widely accepted standard.
Not all alcohol-free wine meets that bar, but the ÔPIA range does. And it does it without compromising on flavour or quality.
If you've been looking for proper halal wine options in the UK, this is where we'd start.
